Bullying is BAD!!!

There are three types of people who are involved with bullying.

The Bully. This is the person who hurts someone. They can hurt with actions or words.
The Target. This is the person who gets hurt by the bully.
The Bystander. This is the person who watches but doesn't do anything to help the target.

We did some freeze frames today - can you tell which person is the bully, the target and the bystander?

We talked about what we can do if we see some bullying happening.
We can tell the teacher or an adult.
We can tell the bully to stop it.
We can take the target away or help them.

A great read!

Down the Back of the Chair is written my Margaret Mahy. It is about a Dad who lost his keys so they looked down the back of the chair. They didn't find the keys but they found other stuff instead. They found a lion and even a taxi.

It made us laugh lots. We think little kids will like it, kids like us will like it and adults will like it too. We painted a chair and thought of all the things we might find down the back of a chair. Cameron found Miss Little, Rebecca found lollies and Grace found a computer!

Review of the Week!

What happened this week?
Reading, Breakfast Club, Discovery Time, we made playdough and jelly, Pasifika dancing and drawing and painting birds.

What went really well this week?
We did the science experiments really well, Josiah and Alyssa C did some amazing writing, the Circles played Rocket at Maths time adn the Allosaurus reading group are doing a great play!

What didn't go so well this week?
1 Some people were a bit noisy and didn't listen when we did art with Miss Goodwin.

2 We didn't do maths every day this week.

What can we do to fix it for next week?

We all need o remember that we need to show respect for teachers by listening and working quietly if that is what they want!

And next week we will be back to normal so we should be ok with maths!

How did this week go for you?

12 of us had a great week, 7 of us a so-so week and 1 of us, a not so good week!

Discovery Time!

Room 4's assembly

A certain reading group in Room 4 has been working VERY hard on a play over the last two weeks. Can you guess who these people are and what they are dressed up as?

We had a practie today and had to ask Miss Dyer and Miss Goodwin to stand in for two people who were away - they were pretty good actors!

We hope you can come and see the play and one other secret performance at assembly this week!

Our Awesome Student Teachers

For the past 2 weeks we have had two extra teachers in Room 4.

Their names are Miss Goodwin and Miss Dyer. They are here because they are learning how to be teachers!

They have been doing some really cool stuff with us like Pacifika Dancing and some science experiments.

We think they are very nice and awesome and they rock. We think they will be really good teachers because they are really good at looking after kids and they are really good at doing stuff like a teacher does!

Room 4's weekly review

We have decided to start looking back at the week we have just had and use our thinking hats to discuss how it has all gone! Here is our first go, week ending Thursday 29 April!

The white hat - What did we do this week?
Rebecca turned 6, we played on the fort, Reading, new Writing groups, Miss Bennington was there on Monday, Groovy news groups, Maths, we swapped jobs.

The Yellow hat - What was great about this week?
Maths, Spelling, some people moved up to Level 4, Reading and writing.

The Black hat - What didn't go so well this week?

We were a bit noisier than usual and some people went down in their levels.

Using our Green hat thinking - new ideas - what can we do next week to change what didn't go so well this week?
We can keep an eye on Miss Little's 'volume control on the whiteboard, we can listen and practice at home.
People can think hard about being good and what they need to do to behave really well so they can go back up some levels.

Finally - Red Hat - How did we all feel about this week?
18 of us had an awesome week, 2 of us had a so-so week and 3 of us had a week that could've been better!
